Caligrafía Artística It is a Cultural and Calligraphy Teaching Center for Ibero-America.
It is the first community of calligraphers created in Peru with a reach to all of Latin America. Encouraged to spread artistic calligraphy in all its applications. We provide practical training that will help to learn this discipline.
The vast professional experience of our teaching staff allows us to develop fundamental workshops not only for initiation but also for specialization in the art of writing with beauty.

Our mission

The rescue, protection and dissemination of the art of calligraphy in Lima, Peru and Latin America. Through the training of all those people interested in the world of writing. To carry out this mission, we have established some goals that will help us project our vision into the future:

  • Consolidate physical spaces where to develop and disseminate calligraphic activity, both for teachers and for all our students.
  • Train, nurture and certify the teachers of our Cultural Center, so that they are competent and always provide added value by sharing their knowledge and experience.
  • Offer theoretical-practical training workshops for the general public and develop activities that promote new talents in calligraphy and design.
  • Enrich the training of teachers and participants with qualified international teachers.
  • Expand the scope of action in Peru and Latin America to take it to the whole world.

We have a team of experts, highly skilled in Calligraphy, Lettering and Typography. In addition to have a wide experience of teaching.

Gerson del Águila

Gerson del Águila, a visual artist trained at the Faculty of Art of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, with more than 18 years of experience in teaching, image consulting and brand development, found a creative universe in classical calligraphy.
“Transmitting knowledge and receiving it, perfecting the technique at every moment, is the way for an art to endure”. Following this personal reflection he sought to expand the practice of calligraphy in Peru and it is so
who founded: Caligrafía Artística, being its current director.
Promoter and disseminator of this discipline, he encouraged the teacher Claude Dieterich to return to teach in Lima.

Mili Bellido

Mili Bellido, knew from a young age what his vocation was, design and, his passion, lettering and calligraphy. Her desire to specialize in these disciplines has led her to follow various workshops since 2014, reaching Argentina, where she has the calligrapher Silvia Cordero as a mentor.

"There is no limit, there are many possibilities of expression of calligraphy, it is that versatility that motivates me to constant learning".

It has been part of Caligrafía Artística since its inception.

Nilton Coronado

Nilton Coronado, loves his profession because, as he says, “design fills the world with beauty; each piece, each image, each object that is part of our daily life, was thought before; there was a designer behind it”.
Graphic and digital design are his specialty with emphasis on the creation of corporate identity and construction of lettering. With several years in teaching, image consulting and art direction. He has been part of Caligrafía Artística since its inception.

Diego Sanz Salas

Diego Sanz Salas, born in Arequipa, is a graphic designer and typographer. Quincha's font is the first Peruvian project selected in the Latin Types Typographic Biennial, he designed the logo for ¡Asu Mare! and together with Jorge Zárate, they won the emblem design contest for the LIMA 2019 Pan American Games. He began his studies in the city of Córdoba, Argentina. CPU.

Martín Arias

Martín Arias , born in Arequipa, is a graphic designer and typographer. The source of him Quincha, is the first graphic designer graduated from the Faculty of Art of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. He is dedicated to editorial, corporate and brand and image design, specializing in journalistic design, infographics and calligraphy. He has developed important graphic communication projects, corporate image design and museography in Peru. His work has been published in various journalistic and commercial publications. He currently works as an infographics editor for the newspaper Perú.21 and works independently on editorial design, illustration and artistic calligraphy.

Pilar Sillero

Pilar Sillero Graphic designer, graduate in digital marketing and lover of letters in all its dimensions. Specialized in modern calligraphy and lettering, she has enjoyed teaching children, adolescents and adults for more than 6 years. She considers that learning and practicing calligraphy, in addition to developing concentration and creativity in the student, is therapeutic:

"The types say it all, they give messages, they convey feelings and they help to heal."

Claude Dieterich

Life in strokes of Claude Dieterich:
Claude Dieterich Ambrosini, born in 1930, is French in spite of his resounding surnames Teutonic first and Corsican second. “My paternal ancestors were Alsatians”, he points out; that is to say, from that region called Alsace that was the territory of a historical dispute between the French and Germans, a dispute that ended in favor of France after the Second World War.

Already in post-war Paris, in the early fifties, Claude got a job after studying design, painting, drawing, sculpture and engraving. However, he admits that his beginnings were not as easy as he would have liked because he was forced to do work where the balance between design and advertising fell more on the latter. The best of all is that from then on he knew what he liked, what he didn't and what he should do for the rest of his life.

Ten years later, in 1961, in his thirty-one years, when Claude arrived in Lima, his first impression was of lack, since he missed phototypography, offset printing and fine papers; in fact, no one knew the word “design”, and even less that it was a booming and consolidating art. At most, he could hear that they called him “diagrammer”, a confusion in which nobody gets lost today within the graphic industry. For example, "nobody understood why I insisted on designing the text of a book, because they thought that it was done automatically in the press," he says. However, he immediately connected with three of the best printing houses in Lima, all of which had linotypes, and was gradually able to pursue his own business and become one of the main protagonists of the nascent graphic design industry in Peru.

Already settled in Lima and won over by the affection of his friends and colleagues, years later Claude was invited to search for Paititi in Madre de Dios, the mythical lost city of the Incas. His thing was to take charge of the audiovisual and photographic record of the expedition. For three months he traveled through hills, highlands and ravines, spent another month in Cusco and slept in the precarious warmth of his sleeping bag under the ruins of Machu Picchu.

Shortly after, he returned to Paris and participated in the events of May 1968 alongside the students of his school, designing and pasting posters on the walls of the city during the night. After appeasing the student's revolutionary fervor, he worked until the end of the year and returned to Lima, where a few years later he was invited to teach the new Graphic Design career at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. Claude accepted the challenge, and although he admits that he had no experience as a teacher, “I decided to teach what my teachers had taught me when I was a student”, he recalls.

Although the teaching experience filled him with satisfaction, he also had to suffer the disdain of those colleagues who considered that his subject was not up to the level of painting and other plastic arts; but Claude had set out to train two generations of graphic designers before he retired, and he did.

Soon after, Claude decided to take summer courses with Hermann Zapf—the great German designer, typographer, and calligrapher—at the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York State. It was such a rewarding and formative experience that he traveled several more summers to take the same course. In the end, after appreciating the level of work that was done there, he decided to go live in the United States.

The beginnings were not easy, but after working for five years in the state of Florida, he landed a teaching position at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, the largest private university in the United States. There he taught calligraphy, typography, and lettering for the next twenty-two years. “After that experience and making numerous friends who are calligraphers, typographers and book designers, among the best in their trade, I have a sharper and greater awareness of what the word ‘design’ implies,” he says.

Claude returned to Lima in 2013, but not to retire, something impossible in a city full of design, be it in the newspapers, the posters, the walls and even in the calligraphy on the sides of the public transport vehicles, the famous combis, that thus indicate the route that they follow daily basting the paths of the city.

“No tengo la pretensión de expresar mi personalidad en manifestaciones egocéntricas a través de mi caligrafía; solo quiero copiar textos importantes para mí dándoles una forma armónica y sensible para seguir aprendiendo en este largo camino que ha sido mi vida”, resume así su naturaleza y condición Claude Dieterich, diseñador gráfico, calígrafo, tipógrafo, artista y auténtico maestro y artesano de la palabra escrita.

Silvia Cordero Vega

Silvia Cordero Vega graduated as a Graphic Designer from the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Urbanism of the University of Buenos Aires. As a graduate student, she studied postgraduate specialization in calligraphy I and II. In 1998 and 1999 she obtained the National Diploma in Calligraphy (Foundation and Intermediate) awarded by the English calligraphy association CLAS (Calligraphy and Lettering Arts Society).

He has specialized in the art of calligraphy, expanding his training in Europe and the US, taking courses with leading international calligraphers, researching the history of writing in various libraries and museums, among other public and private entities dedicated to the conservation and study of manuscripts.

Since the 1990s, it has carried out a profound dissemination task deployed in various projects for the development of calligraphy in Argentina and Latin America.

She currently gives workshops and conferences at universities, foundations and associations in Argentina, Latin America, the United States and Europe. Recently one of her projects has been selected as a cover note, also forming part of an interesting article for the most prestigious calligraphy magazine "Letter arts review".

She is a visiting professor at the Carbone typography chair at the University of Buenos Aires. She is the director of the calligraphy training workshops: AULA CALIGRÁFICA dictated in Espacio VIRGEN.

She is the author of the books on calligraphy “Alalphabets, flora and fauna” and “Viaje en tiralíneas” from the visual collection of calligraphy.
